Stockton Divers was formed in February 1981 and we are a member of the Confederation Mondiale Des Activities Subaquauatiques (CMAS)
In 2006 Stockton Divers were awarded UK club of the year for outstanding achievement. In the following year 2007 we were again awarded club of the year, a back to back award never achieved by any club before
We are NOT a commercial organisation; in fact our branch is run by officers, and club members working on a purely voluntary basis. Using the expertise of members we find we are more cost effective than a commercial diver training outfit. As we only meet once a week for training, we cannot offer "fast track” diving so if you need to learn to dive in a few weeks, we suggest that you approach a recognised diving school but don't forget to take your Bank Manager with you.
Stockton Divers are affiliated to the BSAC and also the SAA but we are a divers club, welcoming divers from all organisations including: - British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), Sub-Aqua Association (SAA), Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), and Scottish Sub-Aqua Association (SCOTSAC).
Although divers from all organisations are welcomed into the club, all training is based on the BSAC system. Cross-over modules are available to enable divers from other organisations to continue their training with the BSAC. This is becoming very popular for the growing number of people learning to dive on holiday. We suggest you come and have a chat with us if you are in this situation.
The current membership covers an age range from 14 into the 70's. It is a mature club with a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. Our dives take place in many varied locations from locally at Redcar, Farne Islands and St Abbs, to expeditions in Scotland, Ireland, France, Spain, Malta, Maldives and Egypt
Training takes place on Thursday nights, meeting at Thornaby Pool at 7.30 pm meeting in the front foyer. Training is available to all levels, starting with Snorkel training for our junior section for 12 years plus, through to full equipment training at the age of 14. After the pool sessions we meet at River Tees Water Sports Centre around 9.00pm, where our members meet for lectures and a social evening.
Stockton Divers are a well equipped club having at our disposal, the use of our two 5.5 meter RIBS both fitted with latest safety, navigation and wreck finding equipment. Both RIBS are now fitted with the latest GMDSS radio technology. At the training pool all equipment is available for basic training.
